MX One now released as a standalone version supporting up to 7000 IP users. Ericsson consider it to be the most powerful softswitch platform available with full functionality for the most demanding of Enterprise user.

Ericsson launch the new MX One platform for MD110 in London and MD110user was there to find out what this platform is all about. Well in simple terms it is the new generation of MD110 which will over the next two years will become Ericsson next generation Enterprise voice platform.  The interesting thing is that the platform is Linux based and Ericsson have taken the MD110 Voice applications and are simply ported them over to MX One over the next two years. The first release is probably best described as a branch node that can be added to an MD110 via a IP connection. What does it offer, well it is in a 19" 2U size for up to 700 ports.

According to Fredrik Boone Ericsson Enterprise are back, nice to hear of course for all of you that have a considerable investment in MD110; but it begs the question...where have they been?
BC12 does give the MD110 a 'convergence'  lift that positions it right back in as an equal amongst its peers.  One of the most significant features of BC12 is the IP capabilities, Ericsson have done some smart things with the remote branch working it is worth a second look.  MD110 is still offering the strongest mobility package available from any vendor and the mobile extn gives it a strong enterprise business offering.

The core system and functionality is important to any comms manager but it is often the sexy things (like the terminals)  that grab a users interest.  The 4000 series phones really do look the business, and  they have all the features to go with them.
If there is one thing that is going to attract you to invest in an upgrade  it is the terminals.  Never mind the future proofing, we all like to see a nice terminal on the desk.
With the 3000 series terminal range having been phased out your suppliers will not now be able to buy any further stocks, a number of opportunist suppliers have bought out the stock but have run a risk, Ericsson are offering their new 4000 range with added functions for the same price or even cheaper, there should be good deals to be had from your supplier, squeeze them hard!

Ericsson Enterprise have introduced a new scheme to its sales partners to encourage them to secure 3 year upgrading contract with you the client.
The principle is you will be charged a quarterly fee over a 3 year contracted term, in return you will be provided upgrades as and when they are available, at no additional cost.
We are always somewhat sceptical of such contracts, the upgrading process can be varied in its complexity it all depends on what you are committed to receive for your payment?
It is of course logical for the vendor and the supplier, what about you the customer?  It is worth looking at cost of ownership and the plans you may be considering for your comms strategy.  It does move the financing from capital funds to operational but what do you get in real terms over the 3 years.
Check the contract thoroughly and make sure!
